Ripley Rangers Under 7s v Welbeck Welfare U7s
Ripley followed up last weeks impressive win over Quarrydale with another convincing win,
beating Welbeck Welfare 9-1 to record their joint highest win of the season.
Ripley started the game brightly, imposing a fluent passing style from the kick off.
Ciaran Gillespie sent Thomas Rankin through with an angled pass, Rankin's first touch
was excellent and he produced a calm finish to put Ripley in the lead. The second goal
was similar to the first with Gillespie again sending Rankin clear who again produced a
composed finish. Ciaran Gillespie then made it 3-0 with a powerful left foot finish, before
Thomas Rankin completed his hatrick before half time with another good finish to make it
4-0.
Captain for the day Seb Askew read the game well at the back ensuring Welbeck found it
difficult to create any clear cut chances. Askew also picked out some good passes
ensuring the majority of the first half was played inside Welbecks half. Aeron Broadhurst's
busy competitive style ensured Welbeck struggled to clear the ball giving Ripley good
territory.
Jack Langley who returned after missing lasts weeks win over Quarrydale was his usual
reliable self at the back making numerous interceptions and blocks and also showed good
awareness to enable Ripley to continue to build from the back.
Daniel Wilson showed some good touches and good ability as Ripley continued to force
the pace. Thomas Harrison also made some strong runs forward.
Welbeck did manage to pull a goal back prior to half time, Ripley leading 4-1 at the
interval.
Ripley continued to dominate after the break. Ciaran Gillespie was tripped inside the area
and Daniel Wilson powered home the penalty for his first Ripley Rangers goal.
Immediately from the kick off Ciaran Gillespie intercepted the ball and rode two strong
challenges before ramming home his second and Ripely's 6th.
Aeron Broadhurst continued to exert his pressing game and linked up well withThomas
Rankin, particularly from throw ins, with Thomas picking Aeron out and visa versa.
Seb Askew who played in a more advanced position in the second half was unlucky not to
score when from a tight angle his low drilled effort was just wide. Askew limped off with a
knock late on.
Thomas Rankin added two more, his last a smart finish in a congested penalty area from a
Ripley corner, taking Thomas's total for the season to an impressive 26.
Zak Annable whose kicking and domination of his area were excellent throughout created
the last goal with a huge kick, Ciaran Gillespie completed his hatrick and the scoring with
an emphatic finish.
A comfortable win for Ripley with Daniel Wilson and Thomas Harrison both catching the
eye.

against Robin Hood Colts.
