Match Report 1/12/13 Ripley Rangers Under 7s v Shirebrook Rangers Under 7s Ripley Under 7s continued their recent unbeaten run with a comfortable 5-2 win against Shirebrook. Having played out two very evenly contested games against Shirebrook during Ripleys recent tournament success in October, many forecasted another close encounter. Ripley however dominated the early exchanges with Thomas Rankin scoring a hatrick inside the first ten minutes. Rankin showed his usual composure in front of goal with three varied finishes, showing quick feet and excellent awareness. The pick of the bunch was a finish with the outside of his foot to deftly beat the advancing keeper. Seb Askew marshalled well at the back and on more than one occasion made important blocks and tackles when Shirebrook had players over. Aeron Broadhurst made an eye catching slide tackle winning the ball cleanly to keep the momentum with Ripley. Daniel Wilson nearly added another with a snapshot which was well saved. Wilson demonstrated good athleticism with some hard running, also showing delicate touches at times. Ciaran Gillespie finished well twice with his left foot before the break to put Ripley in to a 5-0 half time lead. Shirebrook responded well in the second half and predictably threw everything at Ripley eventually reducing the deficit to 5-2. Thomas Harrison produced some nice touches in a congested midfield and also demonstrated good ability and power. Seb Askew again played a more advanced role in the second half producing some skilful runs down the right flank and was unlucky not to score forcing the Shirebrook keeper in to a smart save at his near post. Aeron Broadhurst continued to dominate the midfield showing excellent pace and determination again giving Ripley a good foundation to build on. Broadhursts surging runs have become a feature in recent weeks. Jack Langley shored things up at the back as Shirebrook tried to force themselves back in to the game. Langley read the game well and whilst last man showed great determination to keep Shirebrook at bay. Zak Annable whose kicking was excellent again overcame a knock late on showing bravery to continue between the sticks. Ripley never panicked and finished the game strongly forcing numerous corners and having the majority of possession but were unable to add to their goal tally. Man of the Match was Seb Askew.
