U9’s Make Mothers Proud

What a difference a year makes! The boys of the Under 9’s Ripley Rangers did their mothers proud in the match against the MDC FC Green’s. Last year on Mother’s day, was not a good day for the team with a disappointing defeat but this year the team played fantastically, such a turn around and a lot less muddy. Ripley Rangers had a 7 man team with no available substitutes but this didn’t stop the boys giving it their all. The first half saw cracking saves by Noah Winfield with pressure on at both ends. There was a flick on by Jacob Stuart and superb passing between Bray Bowley and Coby Didcock which saw the end of the first half staying at 0-0, although a few chances were taken but the back of the net was not to be found. Ten minutes into the second half there was a close chance for Coby but again it was not to be. A handball by the Green’s in the penalty box saw a chance for the Rangers to go ahead, Coby took to the penalty spot and took the shot, but the ball hit the left post and bounced back into play! A quick pass back from Jacob to Coby and the ball hit the back of the net, finally, a goal had gone in, much to Coby’s joy, score 1-0 to Ripley. Play continued and Bray took a direct shot to the stomach winding him badly, the boys played on with only 6 men. The Green’s still couldn’t break through the defence of Jake, Riley and Lucas even though we were a man short. Bray rejoined the field and play continued. Then it came, a goal from the Green’s to equalise, followed quickly by a second, Ripley was losing 2-1. The defence and Noah picked themselves up and pushed forward, passing the ball back up the field and there it came, a second goal from Coby, we had equalised. A free kick given against the Green’s saw a final chance for the Rangers to go back ahead but it went just wide of the net. End result 2-2. Although a draw, the team’s efforts of pulling together proved they are a team to continue to watch. The Man of the Match as voted by the referee was Jacob Stuart.
