Match Report

On a very grey Sunday morning the Rangers took on MDC FC Greens, it was the last game of the season. The pace of the Greens was quick off the mark with a goal being scored in the first few minutes and the Rangers going down 1-0 but Noah Winfield, the Rangers goalie did not let his head drop. The pressure was on for the Rangers defence as the Greens pushed forward and attacked their net on a number of occasions.  When the passes made it forward to the Green’s goal end, Jacob Stuart taking 3 shots on goal and Bray Bowley with another shot, could not find the net. The rain poured heavily down but play continued. Lucas Benniston, team captain and normally in the middle of defence, was bought on in midfield, with the absence of Coby Didcock in the forward position. Jacob and Bray had to push forward hard. The end of the first half saw Rangers still down by 1 goal. When the second half started back in play, a second goal for the Greens came quite quickly. The Rangers heads did not go down. Then the Rangers had a corner which was aimed straight into the box, the goalie got a hand to it to knock it back out but it fell to Jacob’s feet and with a strong kick the back of the net was finally found! 2-1 to the Green’s. Jake Morledge took a free kick, passing to Jacob but the goalie got a hand to it again and it was saved. A further free kick from just outside of the penalty box hit the wall and the ball bounced back into play. The Rangers team were getting the upper hand and putting pressure on the Green’s with Rylee Fletcher–Stack being strong in defence for the Rangers. Billy Horne played up front with some solid tackling and then it came! Yet another free kick for the Rangers, Bray walks up to take the kick, passes smoothly to Jacob who found the net and we were back on a level score, 2-2. It seemed like a game of many free kicks and where possible the Rangers took full advantage of it. The final whistle blew and the end score remained 2-2. Man of the match was named as Bray Bowley and Jacob Stuart.
